Historical Skins – Leopard 2A6 HEL

Commanders!

With the Europe’s Edge Battle Path in full swing, we’ve prepared a special event in support of it featuring more European content as well as Battle coins. The event’s called Shield of Macedon and as the name suggests, the topic will be (Ancient) Greece. The main reward of the event and the topic of this article will be a Leopard 2A6 skin called Leopard 2A6 HEL.

Leopard 2A6 HEL

Greece has been using the Leopard 2A6 for almost two decades now. The initial contract with Germany was signed in 2003 and 170 vehicles were delivered between 2006 and 2009. Of these tanks, 30 were assembled in Germany and 140 were assembled locally in Greece by a company called Elbo.

The Greek variant is called Leopard 2A6 HEL (sometimes written 2A6HEL) based on the official name of Greece (the Hellenic Republic). There are some differences between this variant and the German Leopard 2A6.

The Greek Leopard 2A6 is based on the 2A6EX upgrade (in Armored Warfare that’s the upgraded configuration of the Tier 9 Leopard 2A6) and features several new systems, including:

  • Iniochos command and control system
  • Ophelios thermal imager by Zeiss
  • Weather sensor on the roof
  • Improved roof protection
  • Air conditioning

The first Leopard 2A6 HEL entered service with the 25th Armored Brigade in Xanthi on May 30, 2008.

Here’s where the skin comes in. A decade after its introduction, a military parade took place in Thessaloniki on October 28, 2018 in celebration of the Ohi Day (an anniversary of the 1940 Greek refusal of Mussolini’s ultimatum). A Leopard 2A6 HEL was given a special paintjob for the occasion, celebrating a decade of service.

And that’s what the skin is based on – the epic appearance of this Leopard.

Aside from the skin, we’ll also have other items for you, such as:

  • Greek (Winter) camouflage
  • Macedonian camouflage
  • Albanian Green base paint
  • Emblem of the Greek Army decal
  • Vergina Sun of Macedon decal
  • Emblem of the Macedonian Army decal

And, as mentioned above, bonus Battle Coins for the Europe’s Edge Battle Path. We hope that you’ll enjoy this event, and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!
