Introducing the T-14 Armata

As the armored vehicles fans well know, the "Armata" tank became the “star” of the military news sites in these last few weeks.  We would like to share excellent news with you – the T-14 “Armata” tank will be featured in Armored Warfare! The developers have confirmed their plans to introduce the new Russian tank into their game.  The “Armata” will be available in the game as one of the high-tier main battle tanks, placed either on tier 9 or on tier 10, both of which will be added as a part of the future game development after its release.

The unified tracked “Armata” platform was develop during the last decade by the “Uralvagonzavod” company and will be used as the basis for whole series of vehicles. There are plans to replace the vehicles currently serving in the Russian army (including the T-80 and T-90 main battle tanks) with the “Armata” vehicle family and even the western experts predict the “Armata” to be at least on par with even the most modern version of the American “Abrams” main battle tank.

T-14 "Armata" tank main features

The T-14 “Armata” tank was partially created using the solutions developed for the previous experimental vehicles “T-95” and “Black Eagle”. The T-14 Armata features:

  • A 125mm 2A82-1M smoothbore gun;
  • An unmanned, remotely-controlled turret, which allows the crew to survive even an ammunition explosion;
  • A multi-layer composite armor that protects the vehicle from all contemporary anti-tank rounds, complemented by the “Afganit” active protection system.

Currently, the Russian army has big plans for the use of the entire “Armata” vehicle platform. Their exact extent is still classified but it was already published that the platform family would not include only the T-14 “Armata” tank, but also a heavy infantry fighting vehicle (referred to by Russian sources as T-15), a heavy self-propelled gun, an armored recovery vehicle, a bridge-layer and an engineer vehicle.

The “Armata” tank – as well as other vehicles – is scheduled to be shown to the public during the Victory Day parade in Moscow in 2015, although a video of it recently appeared on the internet.

Here's what Project Director Richard Taylor at Obsidian Entertainment has to say about the Armata:

"As photographs of the upcoming Russian T-14 Armata Main Battle Tank begin to surface, we at Obsidian are looking forward to the promised appearance of this highly advanced vehicle at the 2015 Moscow Victory Day Parade. One of the fascinating aspects of Armored Warfare is that as modern military technology continues to evolve this game will grow right along with it. Prototypes and cutting edge experiments of today will become the vehicles of tomorrow and we have plans for including the latest and great machines that are actually built in future updates to Armored Warfare. Our initial list of vehicles are divided across 8 Tiers of progression, starting with early Post WW2-era vehicles up to vehicles that mostly come from the late 1990's. What is not found in these initial 8 Tiers of vehicles are the latest machines used around the world today. For example, the Tier 8 MBT from the United States is the M1A1 instead of the M1A2 or M1A3 as might be expected. It has always been the plan to eventually add Tiers 9 and 10 to the available vehicles and the T-14 Armata, with its remote controlled turret and highly protected crew compartment, will definitely be among the most powerful vehicles in the game. Of course, it's only fair that this ultra-modern MBT have competition. As we get closer to releasing tiers 9 and 10, we will reveal more of the many other cutting edge machines that will be joining the roster. It is too early to go into details about the exact mechanics about how Tiers 9 and 10 will be unlocked. We are not planning to make them extensions of our initial Dealer inventories so that players do not have to worry about going down the right lines right at the start to be able to unlock their favorite Tier 9 and 10 vehicles in the future. More information about Tiers 9 and 10 will be provided as we get closer to being able to add them to the lineup sometime after the launch of Armored Warfare. Until then, there is plenty of time to speculate about which vehicles will be reserved for these highest tier battles!"
